TRIPPY NEAL ADAMS HEAVY METAL SHORT

The Fact that I am just a mere fan and not a super comic book geek means that I am in no position to go into the depth and breadth of Mr. Neal Adams career, controversy or Comic book history. I am but a humble presenter of pictures, and an exhibitor of illustrations that inform my own work. As far as psychedelic comic art goes, this short piece from Neal Adams I found in an Old issue of Heavy Metal really gets the juices going if you know what I mean. Please visit his web address to find out more about this Comic legend http://www.nealadams.com/

NICOLE CLAVELOUX- THE GREEN HAND

Another treat from my favorite magazine. Way back in the 1970’s there was a disturbing lack of giant breasts and heroines battling mutants in skin tight leather panties in the pages of HEAVY METAL. they had the nerve to publish whimsical artists like Jeff Jones, Caza, and of course, Nicole Claveloux. I have previously posted about her children’s book, “The TELETRIPS OF ALALA”, so  please enjoy another psychedelic treasure from Mz Claveloux. Bask in the saturated inks and perplexing storyline.

JOHN O’BRIEN ILLUSTRATES MY FAVORITE TROLLS

The gateway drug that led me down a Boschian worm hole was John O’Brien’s 1977 Random house book “Favorite Tales of Monsters and Trolls”. I was fascinated with his tight pen lines depicting tiny house growing from within the massive drunks and roots. His tiny drawings of bird headed peasants and hats made of rotting tubers. Little did I know this picture book of classic fairy tales would lead me into the depths of suffering painted so lovingly by mister Bosch. Today I share this gift with you by presenting some of my most loved images from “Favorite Tales of Monsters and Trolls”.

FANCY FEELIN’S SUFFER

A series of type experiments I created to highlight the differences between emotions and how those emotions are illustrated is what I would have wrote if I was actually “feelin’ fancy”. I started this project because I kept seeing the same “type” treatments with pithy sentiments displayed in rounded 3d text. I saw ribbony letters proclaiming “Art is Life” and “design is good”.  What I wanted to say was “ Thanks Herb Lubalin junior, I didn’t know “design was good” until I decoded the secret message buried deep inside your ribbon candy fun fest.” I f you didn’t know it already, I have been known to be a bit of an Ahole from time to time and it is in this spirit I created the following works.
